Frequently Asked Questions
What does SpeedTube do?
SpeedTube is a Safari extension that lets you cycle through video playback speeds with a single toolbar click. It works on YouTube.
Which websites does SpeedTube support?
SpeedTube currently supports YouTube (youtube.com). Speed control works seamlessly across all YouTube videos.
How do I customize the speed presets?
Open the SpeedTube settings page from Safari's extension preferences. You'll see a checkbox grid of speeds from 0.25x to 5x. Check the speeds you want in your cycle and uncheck the ones you don't need.
How do I disable the speed override?
Keep clicking the toolbar icon past your fastest speed. SpeedTube will cycle to OFF, which resets the video back to normal 1x playback and stops overriding the speed.
Does my speed setting persist?
Yes. Your selected speed persists across videos, tab switches, page navigations, and browser sessions. SpeedTube remembers your last speed until you change it.
Does SpeedTube collect my data?
No. SpeedTube processes everything locally in your browser. No data is sent to remote servers. We do not collect, store, or share any browsing data or personal information.
Does SpeedTube require an internet connection?
No. SpeedTube works entirely within Safari. It does not make any network requests. The extension only interacts with video elements on supported web pages.
What macOS and Safari versions are supported?
